The objective include to ensure and also monitor state audits on bank wide basis. Will also ensure that schedules for monthly and annual tax returns are prepared within required time frame. Ensuring timely payment of tax liabilities. Further monitoring of branch compliance to the Bank’s laid down procedures on remittance of internally generated taxes. Also ensuring that entities within the banking group comply with tax regulations their own jurisdiction. Finally, to ensuring the completion of statutory tax audit within the set deadline.

Duties and responsibilities of FirstBank Tax Officer

  • Firstly, to ensure remittance of monthly withholding tax on contract for the Bank.
  • Secondly, to review the remittance of internally generated taxes (VAT, WHT and PAYE) by branches and also head office departments in line with laid down procedure.
  • To participate in review, computation, filling and also remittance of company income tax returns.
  • To ensuring promptly filling of Income Tax Self-Assessment for the Bank.
  • Also to review responses to inquiries on tax matters by various tax authorities and staff.
  • Duty of participating in various states’ tax audit and Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) audit.
  • Responsible to conduct test for adequacy of tax deducted on transactions.
  • Also ensuring promptly preparation of tax clearance certificate for both staff and also the Bank.
  • Ensuring the exposing of the bank to penalty by Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) for non-rendition or under remittance of taxes.
  • To ensure the exposure of the bank to sanctions / penalty for late rendition or payment of incomes taxes.
  • Lastly, non-compliance with tax returns may lead to image problem.

Key competency requirements

Knowledge requirements

  • Applicants must have professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACA, CPA or its equivalent.
  • Applicants must have at least six (6) years post qualification years’ experience.
  • Must also have relevant / specific banking experience in addition.
  • Applicants must have broad understanding of banking practice.
  • Lastly, must have knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and IFRS Accounting Policy.


  • Must have good interpersonal and also communication skills.
  • Must also have eye for detail and accuracy with a strong analytical capability.
  • Applicants must have high level of computer literacy
  • Lastly, applicant must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.


  • Applicant must have a minimum of B.Tech ACA
